{"id":5159306428550,"title":"Sourwood GT","handle":"sourwood-tree","description":"The Sourwood Tree (Oxydendrum arboreum) also know as the sorrel tree, is a deciduous understory tree that is native to the eastern United States. It is perhaps most commonly found on rocky wooded slopes in the Appalachian Mountains, often growing in combination with other heath family members that share the same acidic soil preferences. Gray bark on mature trees is fissured, ridged and scaly. Leaves have a sour taste, hence the common name, and also produce consistently excellent fall color, typically turning crimson red. Waxy, lily-of-the-valley-like, white flowers bloom on slender, drooping, one-sided terminal panicles in early summer. Flowers have a slight fragrance. Flower panicle stems remains in place as the flowers give way to 5-parted dry capsules that ripen to silver-gray in September. Capsules contrast well with the red fall color and provide continuing ornamental interest after leaves drop into winter. Flowers are quite attractive to bees. So far, so good

The tree arrived quickly. It seems to be healthy, it is dormant now but I am anxious to see it start to grow in the spring!

I also appreciated the instructions provided. I plan to purchase more native trees and plants soon!

Beautiful tree

The tree arrived in very nice condition at a good time for fall planting. Packed very nicely, no damage at all. Got it planted the next day and watered in well and it is looking good. Sourwoods are such lovely, under utilized native trees tha provide nectar for bees when relatively few plants are blooming and lovely seed fronds that contrast with burgundy fallleaves.

Trees arrived looking beautiful. They even lasted 3 days before I could inbox them and they still looked good. Got them in pots for a temporary solution since I bought some sourwood trees from a different nursery and they all died.

My Sourwood tree excellent condition and has been placed in,a holding bed till Fall planting. It has been very hot here and not good planting weather. Also still looking, for the perfect spot for my new tree.

Very good condition, packed nicely

All my sour would trees showed up in very good shape. Carefully packed. It is noteworthy because many other nurseries I am ordered trees from failed in that regard, including very well-known fruit Tree nursery. Care was taken in growing quality seedlings and packing them properly.
